يأتي هذا الكتاب في محاولة من المؤلف (محمد شكري الفيومي) لجمع فيه كل ما يتصل بالإملاء، ليكون شاملا أسس الكتابة العربية، وتاريخها الطويل الممتد من بدايتها في العصر الجاهلي، ومرورا بالعصر الإسلامي وما تلاه من عصور حتى الوقت الحاضر، وتعرض الكاتب للخط العثماني الذي كتب به المصحف الشريف، وعرض بعض القواعد العامة وآراء العلماء، ثم يعرض بعد ذلك علامات الترقيم والإملاء، ويختتم الكتاب بالربط بين النظرية والتطبيق بغرض تسهيل بعض طرق التدريس.
