يتحدث الكتاب عن وصف تجربة جنوب إفريقيا من قبل قدوم مانديلا وبعد تربعه علي مقعد الرئاسه ووصف التفاصيل الاقتصادية والسياسية والاجتماعية الشاملة في جنوب إفريقيا وتناول فترة رئاسته خلال واجه مانديلا أزمة طاحنة عندما تولى مانديلا الرئاسة عام 1994 واشتد عليه الضغط الشعبي ليحاسب كل من ظلم واستبد وارتكب جرائم ضد المواطنين السود الأبرياء لكنه استطاع عبور الأزمة وحسم الأمر تماما عن طريق تكوين ما سمي بلجنة الحقيقة والمصالحة وتقوم فكرتها على أعتراف رجال السلطة بجرائمهم مقابل طلب العفو عنهم.
