يعد كتاب \"تاريخ الموصل\" لمؤلفه الشيخ أبي زكريا يزيد بن محمد الأزدي الموصلي \"توفي حوالي 334 هجري / 945 ميلادي\" والصادر عن دار العراب للدراسات، ودار نور حوران (دمشق : 2016) تحقيق : دكتور علي حبيبة، المصدر اﻷصلي لكل المعلومات التاريخية الخاصة بمدينة الموصل لأنه أول مؤرخ كتب تاريخا لمدينة الموصل، وهو يجمع في تأريخه المهم هذا معلومات ينفرد بها عن تاريخ مدينة الموصل وأهلها وما مروا به من أحداث وبين التاريخ الإسلامي العام أبان حكم الدولتين الأموية والعباسية، ويغطي هذا الجزء السنوات من 101-224 هجري / 719-838 ميلادي من تاريخ الموصل.
