يرصد المؤلف (جمال حمدان) في هذا الكتاب أبرز الملامح الإفريقية بدءا من قراءته للشخصية الإفريقية مرورا على جغرافية الاستعمار وجغرافية التحرير والتركيب السياسي لإفريقيا الجديدة. معرجا على العواصم السياسية وصولا إلى تعرضه للقومية الإفريقية والوحدة الإفريقية. ويبدأ الكتاب بوصف قارة إفريقيا بأنها عنيفة شهدت حركة ما تسمى (التدافع على إفريقيا) وهو الوصف الذي التصق بحركة السباق الجنوبي الذي انطلقت إليه دول أوروبا الاستعمارية، وبعد أن طويت هذه الصفحة بدأت حركة التحرير للتدافع على إفريقيا بين الكتل العالمية الجديدة لجذب القارة في صف هذا الطرف أو ذاك، ويرصد جمال حمدان هذه الظاهرة ويتابعها خطوة بخطوة. ويعد هذا الكتاب أحد أهم إنجازات الكاتب الراحل جمال حمدان.
