تنحصر مبادئ السياسة أو النظام السياسي في الإسلام في أربعة مبادئ أو أصول رئيسية هي: الحاكمية لله والخلافة والشورى والعدل، فهذه الأصول تحدد شكل الدولة ونوع الحكم والعلاقة بين الحاكم والمحكومين فالدولة الإسلامية تبعا لمبدأ الحاكمية لله، لابد وأن تحكم بما أنزل الله لأن الإسلام يعني التسليم بأوامر الله ونواهيه وإطاعتها والانقياد بها وذلك عن طريق تطبيق المبادئ الثلاثة الأخرى وهي الخلافة والشورى والعدل.
