في هذا العمل يسترجع الشاعر الكبير علي الجارم ذكريات الحضارة الإسلامية الأندلسية فوق أرضية تاريخية روائية، حيث ينسج الجارم من الأندلس، ذلك الفردوس المفقود، خيوط روايته، وقد جاءت الرواية لتروي لنا حياة الشاعر ابن زيدون في الأراضي الأندلسية، والذي قدرت له الأقدار أن يكون خطيبا لولادة بن المستكفي وأن يعمل وزيرا وكاتبا لابن جهور، ولكن الرياح تجري بما لا تشتهي السفن، فبعد أن كان ابن زيدون فتى الأندلس المدلل، المقرب من القصر، دارت عليه دوائر الحاقدين والحاسدين.
