يتناول هذ الكتاب سيرة ثماني عشرة من أعلام التاريخ الإسلامي، دون تقيد بالعصور أو الدول، بيدو أني عنيت أن تكون هذه التراجم نماذج متباينة لشخصيات لها مميزاتها الخاصة، ولا ريب أن شخصيات مثل هارون الرشيد، وست الملك الفاطمية، وشجرة الدر، والحسن الصباح، وتيمورلنك، وموسى بن نصير، وعبد الرحمن الناصر، والمهدى ابن تومرت، تبدو بمميزاتها الخاصة نماذج فريدة في التاريخ الإسلامي، تستحق قبل غيرها أن تعرض في أثواب حية محدثة، وهو ما حاولته في التراجم التي يضمها هذا السفر وقد خص البعض بالنسبة للبعض الآخر علي تقديم صور موجزة ولكن مركزة شاملة، واتبعت فيها جميعا إي تبيان الخصائص البارزة للشخصيات التي تناولها.
