يقتصر هذه الكتاب على عهد المغول والتركمان ويتكون منه المجلد الأول من سقوط الدولة العباسية إلى 23 جمادي الأولى سنة 941 هجري / 1534 ميلادي، بدخول العثمانيين بغداد.. هذا في المجلد الأول، أما المجلد الثاني فيستعرض تاريخ الأدب العربي في العراق أيام العثمانيين، ويبتدئ من 24 جمادي الأولى سنة 941 هجري / 1534 ميلادي، وينتهي باحتلال بغداد على يد الإنكليز في 17 جمادي الأولى سنة 1335 هجري / 11 آذار سنة 1917م. وموضوع هذا الكتاب هو التاريخ الأدبي في العراق وعلاقته بالبلاد العربية والإسلامية منذ انقراض الدولة العباسية في 5 صفر سنة 656 هجري / 1258 ميلادي.
