أثار كتاب \"من هنا نبدأ\" للكاتب الشاب \"خالد محمد خالد\" ضجة كبيرة في مطلع عام 1950، فأمرت لجنة الفتوى بالأزهر بمصادرة الكتاب وحظر توزيعه بوصفه عملاً هرطقيًّا يهاجم الدين، وطالبت بمحاكمة كاتبه. \"من هنا نبدأ\" لم يكن هذا عنوان الكتاب الذي أثار القضية والجدل، ولكنه حمل في البداية عنوانا آخر هو \"بلاد من ؟ !\"، أما عنوان \"من هنا نبدأ\" فكان بناء على اقتراح من الكاتب السعودي \" عبد الله القصيمي \" صديق خالد محمد خالد. في كتاب \"من هنا نبدأ\" وضع خالد محمد خالد تصوره لما يسمى بـ\"قومية الحكم\" ردًّا على الرأي القائل بضرورة قيام حكومة دينية؛ لأنه كان يرى أن في ذلك مجازفة بالدين تعرض نقاءه للكدر وسلامته للخطر، وأن مظاهر الدولة التي مارسها خلفاء الرسول-صلى الله عليه وسلم- كان العدل لحمتها وسداها، غير أن هذا لا يعني أن هناك طرازاً خاصًّا من الحكومات يعتبره الدين بعض أركانه وفرائضه.
