في روايته \"صندوق الأدلة الأسود\" يكشف الكاتب الأميركي \"مايكل كونللي\" عن قضية تعود إلى عشرين سنة خلت، يتمكن خلالها بطل رواياته المحقق المخضرم هاري بوش من ربط ربط رصاصة تعود إلى جريمة ارتكبت في العام 1992 بالسلاح الذي أطلقت منه، وهي جريمة مقتل مصورة وصحفية شابة تدعى آنيكي غيسبيرسين وقعت ضحية خلال أعمال الشغب التي حصلت في لوس أنجلوس، يومها حقق هاري بوش بالجريمة قبل أن تنقل منه، وتسلم إلى وحدة مكافحة جرائم الشغب، ولكن السنوات مرت، والقضية لم تحل من خلال التحقيقات يكتشف بوش أن مقتل غيسبيرسين كان عملا متعمدا وليس عشوائيا، وتقوده تحقيقاته إلى أن هناك مؤامرة ربما تكون السبب في مقتلها وهي أنها لم تتوجه إلى لوس أنجلوس لتغطية أحداث الشغب، بل لتتبع أحد أفراد الحرس الوطني الذي كان موجودا قبل عام في الخليج العربي أثناء حرب عاصفة الصحراء.
