يضم الكتاب مجموعة ضخمة من أشعار الشعراء الذين ينتمون تاريخيا إلى ذلك العصر الفريد، الذي شهد بعثة النبي الكريم (صلى الله عليه وسلم) كما شهد فجر الإسلام وانتصاره وانتشاره وتثبيت أركانه، والجهاد في سبيله، والغزوات التي مكنت له في الأرض، وهي الموضوعات التي تدور حولها القصائد، فضلا عن موضوعات أخرى مثل قصص الاستشهاد والبطولات التي سطرها المسلمون الفرسان، من أجل تحقيق غايات الإسلام السامية، وقيمه النبيلة، والتصدي لخصوم الإسلام ومعارضيه، ومواجهة ادعاءاتهم وأباطيلهم، كما تصور مجموعة أخرى من القصائد الحزن الغامر والإحساس العميق بالفجيعة، عند وفاة الرسول الكريم، وهو الحدث الذي أنطق كثيرا من عشيرة الرسول وأهله وصحابته بالشعر، ولم يكن يعرف عنهم قوله من قبل.
