كتاب البداية والنهاية هو كتاب من تأليف الإمام الحافظ المؤرخ أبي الفداء إسماعيل بن كثير. 701-774هـ \"هو كتاب في التاريخ الإسلامي العام، ويشتمل على تاريخ ما قبل الإسلام من الأنبياء والأمم، وسيرة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ومعجزاته، وتاريخ المسلمين بعد وفاة الرسول عليه الصلاة والسلام، وحوادثه مرتبة حسب السنين، ونهايته إلى سنة 774هـ كما نص عليه غير واحد من العلماء، والموجود منه إلى حوادث سنة 768هـ. أما ((النهاية)) ففي الملاحم والفتن وأشراط الساعة وأحوال الآخرة\" وفي هذه الطبعة الكتاب يتكون من عشرين مجلدا يبدأ من ابتداء الخليقة وينتهي في المجلد السابع عشر وهو مختص في النهاية وذكر أحوال الآخرة وما بعد ذلك من المجلدات فهي فهارس للكتاب.
