يهتم هذا الكتاب بواقع الفكر والتيارات الفكرية الفاعلة في الخليج العربي منذ نشوء الحركات الإصلاحية في الثلث الأول من القرن العشرين حتى مرحلة الاستقلال في السبعينات، ويسلط الضوء على ستة أقطار خليجية هي العربية السعودية والكويت والبحرين وقطر والإمارات العربية المتحدة وعمان التي تشترك بسمات وخصائص متشابهة عبر التاريخ، وذلك في المجالات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والسياسية والثقافية، والتي تحولت في عصر النفط إلى حالة جديدة في ظل التحول الاقتصادي، والتغير الاجتماعي الذي رافق ازدياد مكانتها اقتصاديا واستراتيجيا لدى الغرب بخاصة.
