يرصد الكتاب عبر حوارات قام بها الكاتب فوزي عويس مع قيادات جماعة الإخوان الذين ابتعدوا عن الجماعة إما بناء علي مراجعة فكرية كاملة أو شبه شاملة وإما اعتراضا علي تغير خط ونهج الجماعة أو يأسا من محاولاتهم إحداث التطوير في عملها وتصويب نهجها، وقد ركز الكتاب علي أعضاء وقيادات سابقة بالجماعة لأنهم الأقدر علي تحليل سياسات وممارسات الإخوان، ويشمل الكتاب قيادات يمثلوا الأجيال المتعاقبة من الجماعة فمنهم من تخطي السبعين ومنهم من هم في الخمسينات والأربعينات أو حتي العشرينات إلا أن العامل المشترك بين كل هؤلاء وغيرهم أن الجماعة حادت عن طريق الدعوة تحت تأثير شهوة السياسة.
