يتناول الكتاب تعريفات التعلم الخبراتي أو التجريبي ونبذة تاريخية عنه وجهود المربي المشهور جون ديوي Dewey فيه ثم مبادئ هذا النوع من التعلم والفرق بينه وبين التعلم التقليدي وركز على نظرية التعلم الخبراتي كما طرحها أشد المناصرين لهذا النوع من التعلم وهو كولب Kolb وذلك من حيث قائمة نمط التعلم والأنماط الأربعة الرئيسة الأخرى للتعلم بالإضافة إلى عوامل تشكيلها جميعا وتقييم هذه النظرية من جهة والتوجهات الجديدة لها من جهة ثانية تناول أيضا أهمية التعلم الخبراتي أو التجريبي من حيث الاستراتيجيات الخاصة به في التعليم العالي والتعليم العام ودور المعلم والطالب فيه وإطار الوقت والعروض التقديمية له وأهميته في الميدان التربوي.
