يعد كتاب دلائل القبلة للمتيجي ( توفي بعد سنه 530 هـ / 1139 م) مرجعا فقهيا هاما كونه المصنف الأول العلماء الجزائري في علم التوقيت، ألفه صاحبه بعد أن لاحظ الكثير من الأخطاء والمخالفات على القبلة في القيروان وسبتة والمغرب والأندلس سواء بلغه أمر التحريف عن بعض المساجد ولم يشاهد ذلك، أو كان شاهدا عيانا على تلك الأخطاء، التي استمر في التحري عنها حتى بعد تأليف كتابة، ويعالج في أبوابة الهامة الطرق الموصلة إلى معرفة القبلة، وبسط الأقوال فيها بالاعتماد على آراء متقدميه من علماء المذهب المالكي، بغية تصحيح أخطاء قبلة محاريب بلاد الغرب الإسلامي، وبيان أسباب هذه الأغاليط التي أساسها التقليد الأعمى الذي جعل الناس يسترسلون في الخطأ، إلى جانب سوء تأويل بعض الفقهاء للأحاديث النبوية، والتكلم في أمر القبلة بالجهل وعدم العالم، مع إتباع هوى النفس ومعاندة الحق، ونبذ استعمال الآلات الفلكية بإطلاق تام.
