الكتاب محاولة لتسليط الضوء على إسهامات الأنثروبولوجيا بوصفها شكلا من أشكال المعرفة الإنسانية في قضايا التنمية سواء أكانت اجتماعية أم ثقافية أم اقتصادية كما تعمل الأنثروبولوجيا على إبراز الجهود المعرفية في مجالات التنمية إذ لو استثمرت استثمارا سليما لكشفت عمق التحولات الاجتماعية والثقافية والسياسية التي ترسم الملامح المشكلة للمجتمع وأطره العامة. والظاهر أن أنثروبولوجيا التنمية يمكن عدها علما حديث النشأة قياسا إلى فروع أخرى من فروع الأنثروبولوجيا وهذا على الرغم من أن موضوع التنمية عرف منذ زمن بعيد من تاريخ البشرية بيد أنه علميا لم تتضح معالمه ولم تتجل حدوده إلا مؤخرا وقد بدأت قضية التنمية تحتل موقعا معرفيا مهما في الفكر الأنثروبولوجي المعاصر على أختلاف مشاربه واتجاهاته.
