لو صادف وسألت، في بداية التسعينيات من القرن المنصرم، أحد منسوبي وزارة الخارجية عن «الأستاذ» فسوف يأتيك الجواب الفوري بأنه محمد مأمون كردي وكيل وزارة الخارجية السعودية الأسبق للشؤون الاقتصادية والثقافية رحمه الله. ينسحب ذلك أيضا على العديد من كبار المسؤولين في الدولة خلال تلك الحقبة التي كان فيها مأمون مأمون ملء السمع والبصر، وفي أوج عطائه وتفانيه في خدمة مصالح وطنه كدبلوماسي رفيع المستوى، وكمفاوض متمرس وفذ يذود عن مكتسبات بلاده بكل ما أوتي من قوة الحجة ورجاحة البيان والندية مع سائر الأطراف المقابلة له. يستعرض الكتاب مسيرة جهده وكفاحه على مدى أربعين عاما، ويواكب مرحلة مهمة لأداء وإنجازات وزارة الخارجية في العقود الأربعة الأخيرة من القرن الماضي.
