تدور أحداث القصة حول راعية ترعى الغنم، تعرضت في يوم من الأيام إلى عاصفة مطرية، فهربت منها، واختبأت مع أغنامها في كهف كبير، وحينما حل الليل دخل إلى الكهف نمر جريح، فعالجت الراعية جرحه، فحفظ النمر لها الجميل، وخرج من الكهف دون أن يفترسها أو يفترس ماشيتها، ففهمت الراعية من الحادثة أن \"لا جزاء للإحسان إلا الإحسان\"، وعادت إلى بيتها بأمان وامتنان.
