يتناول هذا الكتاب تاريخ بلاد الإغريق الأصلية من البحر الأسود، وبحر مرمرة وبحر إيجة، (القارية) والمستعمرات الإغريقية المنتشرة في جميع أصقاع سواحل البحار بدءا وانتهاء بالبحر الأبيض المتوسط في مضيق جبل طارق. إذ تعرضنا بإسهاب شديد لموقع ومكانة هذه المستعمرات في لأهميتها الكبيرة في علاقاتها مع الحضارات الشرقية (كالمصرية والسورية والبابلية حوض البحر الأبيض المتوسط؛ نظرا والحثية والفارسية) باعتبار أن المجتمع الإغريقي أو اليوناني لم يعد مجتمع مغلقا تنحصر قيمته الحضارية في المنطقة التي قام بها.
