استعراض آثار عصور ما قبل التاريخ في سورية وعن كتابه \"عصور ما قبل التاريخ في سورية\"، قال دكتور حسام غازي : تؤرخ عصور ما قبل التاريخ في سورية على نحو 1800000 إلى 3200 سنة ق.م، أي من ظهور الإنسان من وجهتي النظر الأثرية والأنثروبولوجية حتى اختراع الكتابة التي تمثل الحد الفاصل ما بين عصور ما قبل التاريخ والعصور التاريخ، وقد تم توثيقها في الكثير من المواقع الأثرية٬ أقدمها موقعي بئر الهمل وعين الفيل في منطقة الكوم، اللذان يؤرخان على نحو 1800000 ق.م، وبذلك يمثل هذا التاريخ بداية المشهد الثقافي السوري، كما يمثل مع مكتشفات مضيق الأولدوان في تنزانية بداية للمشهد الثقافي العالمي.
