کتاب «التاريخ الكبير المقفي في تراجم أهل مصر والواردين إليها» التقي الدين المقريزي هو قاموس رجال، على غرار تاریخ ابن خلکان-أي وفيات الأعيان-وما تبعه من إضافات وزيادات واستدراکات کالوافي بالوفيات للصفدي وفوات الوفيات لابن شاکر، رتبه صاحبه على حروف المعجم وأراد أن يجعل منه، في زعم بعض الدارسين المعاصرين معجم قوميا كبيرا لتراجم حكام مصر ورجالها ونسائها والواردين عليها.
