يتحدث الكتاب عن إنه يعد مفهوم الصدق من المفاهيم المهمة في الفكر الفلسفي، حيث ارتبط الصدق دائما بالاتجاه المنطقي في نظرية المعرفة وفلسفة العلم، ثم تطور بعد ذلك ليدخل في إطار فلسفة اللغة، ولنظرية الصدق هنا عدة نظريات أهمها : التطابق، والاتساق، والبراجماتية، والسيمانطيقية، ونظرية إمكانية التحقق عند الوضعية المنطقية المعاصرة، وكذلك نظرية الإضافة غير الضرورية، وقد استوعبت هذه النظريات أهم الاتجاهات الفلسفية المعاصرة، فتوجهت كل نظرية نحو اتجاه محدد، فتعلقت هذه النظريات بمجال المنطق، وفلسفات العلم، واللغة، والعقل، بينما الجديد هنا ما فعله سانتيانا بخروجه بنظرية الصدق من هذه المجالات السابقة، ليصوغ الصدق في فلسفته الواقعيةـ وهو هنا يخرج عن التقليد المألوف، ليصوغ نظريته في إطار الواقعية النقدية المعاصرة أعنى به إطار الوجود أو الأنطولوجيا.
