كتاب \"جنوب اليمن في حكم اليسار\" شهادة مهمة من الكاتب فواز طرابلسي، ومن موقعه في الحزب الشيوعي اللبناني ومعاصرته حقبة اليسار في اليمن، منذ سبعينيات القرن المنصرم وحتى تحقيق الوحدة اليمنية في 1990. ويسلط المؤلف طرابلسي، في شهادته، الضوء على تلك التجربة، خصوصا الجزء المسكوت عنه، بأحداثها الدموية في اليمن الجنوبي، وارتباط ذلك بالنظام السياسي في شمال اليمن حينها، ويقدم تأصيلا تاريخيا، من وجهة نظره، عن الخلفية التي شكلت تجربة اليسار، والعوامل التي أثرت عليها، بما في ذلك الصراعات البينية في أجنحة اليسار وصراع المعسكر الرأسمالي والاشتراكي حينها.
