يعد كتاب «النوبة : رواق إفريقيا» تأليف البروفيسور وليام ي. آدامز أستاذ علم الإنسان Anthropology بجامعة کنتاکي-ولاية كنتاكي بالولايات المتحدة، أهم وأشمل كتاب عن تاريخ النوبة والسودان منذ نشأة الحضارة الإنسانية حتى بداية العهد الوطني. والكتاب يقرب من الألف صفحة من القطع المتوسط، ويحمل بين دفتيه عددا كبيرة من الخرائط والرسومات البيانية والتوضيحية، كما يحتوي على صور عديدة لمواقع الآثار والحفريات في السودان منذ بدايتها الأولى، انتهاء بحملة اليونسكو العالمية لإنقاذ آثار النوبة من عام 1959 إلى 1969 م، وهي الحملة التي ترأسها في السودان مؤلف الكتاب البروفيسور آدامز.
