Overview
تعود أصول تشاد إلى أكثر من 7 ملايين عام. كان توماي، السلف المحتمل للإنسانية، يعيش في شمالي الإقليم الحالي. والرسومات الكهفية ما قبل التاريخ، ثم المصنوعة من السيراميك والتي وضعها الساوس منذ الألفية الأولى قبل عصرنا، تشهد على ثراء هذه العصور القديمة. في القرن الثامن بدأ عصر الممالك العظيمة، بما في ذلك ممالك كانم، بورنو، آواداي وباغیرمي، الفاتحين والمنظمين الذين أنشأوا منظمتهم الاجتماعية والسياسية الخاصة بهم. الاستيطان الأوروبي يمثل نقطة تحول. فالمشاركة في المجهود الحربي إلى جانب الحلفاء، في عام 1940، مهد الطريق الإعلان جمهورية تشاد واستقلال البلاد في 11 أوت 1960.
