يعد الكتاب محاولة لملاقاة القراء عميقي التفكير الذين ينشدون الحداثة، وهم يدركون التغيرات المثيرة الحاصلة ف نظرتنا إلى العالم، وهي تغيرات تسير مخالفة لما يؤمن به ضيقو الأفق في رؤيتهم للكون والحياة. ويتبين ذلك من خلال الموضوعات المختارة ف ميادين الفيزياء، والرياضيات، والفلك، وسيرة بعض كبار العلماء. ولأن بهجة البعث العلمي تتجلى ف إظهار جمال الطبيعة وهارمونيتها، ف تصوير كيفية نشوء الأشياء وارتقائها، إضافة إلى متعة الاكتشاف بحد ذاتها التي تماثل الضوء والظل اللذين يبسطان جناحيهما على لغز رقصة العقل والطبيعة، يصبح لزاما علينا ألا نترك العلم وشأنه للعاملين في ميدانه فقط.
