يعكس هذا العمل جانبا من الواقع الاجتماعي الجديد في العراق، الذي يتسم بالتغيرات السريعة وتعدد عوامل التأثير في المجتمع، ما يعني أهمية تناولها بتلك الكيفية، والرشاقة في التغير والتنقل، مع الحفاظ على نسق علمي رصين من التعاطي والتحليل. ويعتمد المؤلف مقاربات متعددة توزعت بين النفسية الاجتماعية في محاولة لفهم السلوك الاجتماعي للشخصية العراقية، وأنثربولجية من أجل فهم تأثير الثقافة بمعناها في الحياة اليومية. والمقاربة السوسيو-دينية، معتمدا المنهج الاجتماعي بالعودة إلى الاستعانة بالاشتغالات المبكرة لإميل دوركهايم، وماكس فيبر، لفهم العلاقة بين الدين والمجتمع والدولة مثلا. هذا فضلا عن المقاربة الجندرية، في سبيل استجلاء المنظور النسوي، لفهم أثر توزيع الأدوار والمكانات بين الرجل والمرأة، وصلة ذلك بالتنشئة الاجتماعية والهيمنة الذكورية.
