تم الاعتماد في هذا الكتاب على مصادر إسلامية وثقت لتاريخ المنطقة مثل تاريخ خليفة بن خياط المتوفى سنة 240 هـ، وأنساب الأشراف للبلاذري المتوفى سنة 279 هـ، وتاريخ الأمم والملوك للطبري المتوفى في 310 هـ، أما المصادر العمانية فقد تمثلت في كتاب الأنساب للعوتبي المتوفى القرن الخامس الهجري، وكتاب كشف الغمة للأزكوي المتوفى في القرن الثاني عشر الهجري، وتحفة الأعيان للسالمي المتوفى سنة 1333 هـ، هذا بجانب عدد من المراجع الحديثة التي تناولت التاريخ الإسلامي المبكر في عمان بما في ذلك تاريخ بني الجلندى.
