الحكم والأمثال : هي الأدب الشفاهي لأي شعب من الشعوب، تتناقلها الألسن من جيل إلى جيل ومن عصر إلى عصر، وهي حصيلة خبرة العراك مع الواقع، والاحتكاك مع الحياة، وهي مصفاة عقول وقلوب البشر-منتجيها، والشعب الكردي كغيره من شعوب المنطقة والعالم أنتج بعضا من هذه الحكم لتشكل بمجموعها (مع حكم وأمثال الشعوب الأخرى) ثقافة شعبية عالمية زاخرة بمعان وأفكار ومضامين تختصر تجربتها مع محيطها وبيئتها، وتعبر عن خصوصيتها وتقاليدها وعاداتها، وبالنسبة للحكم والأمثال الكردية التي سنورد قسما منها، تجدر الإشارة إلى أنه قد يتماثل بعضها مع مثيلاتها العربية أو التركية أو الفارسية أو حتى الهندية بسبب التعايش التاريخي المشترك وحتى وقتنا الراهن في نفس المنطقة وبسبب التداخلات الجغرافية والرحلات والأسفار والفتوحات والحروب والهجرات الكثيرة التي تعرضت لها هذه المنطقة حتى أن بعض هذه الحكم والأمثال لا تتشابه فحسب، بل تتطابق أيضا لنفس الأسباب المذكورة.
