تحدث المعراج بتفصيل عن كتابه، فقال: «اخترت التماثيل، وكانت موضوعا صعبا، واقتصرت في ذلك على فترة تايلوس، ولأصبح أول بحريني يسلك هذا الاتجاه». وأضاف أن «173 تمثالا هي مجموع ما تمتلكه البحرين من فترة تايلوس، بعضها في متحف البحرين الوطني، وآخر في متحف قلعة البحرين، وثالث محفوظ في المخازن وهي تمثل النسبة الأكبر»، مشيرا إلى أن هذه التماثيل تندرج لأنواع من حيث المادة المصنوعة منها أو الخامة، فهنالك الحجر، الطين، الجص، والمعادن المختلفة. وتابع «بدأت مشوار الدراسة، فعملت على تصوير التماثيل ورسمها، وتحديد قياساتها وتفاصيلها، ثم قسمت الدراسة لأربعة أقسام. القسم الأول حمل عنوان «الدراسة الوصفية والتصنيفية»، حيث عملت على وصف التماثيل من حيث مقاساتها ومكان العثور عليها... فيما كان التصنيف إلى مجاميع بحسب الخامة، وكل مجموعة تنقسم لأنواع، والأنواع تتفرع».
