يتناول هذا الكتاب شخصية الإمام يحيى بن حمزة العلوي، الذي حكم الديار اليمنية في القرن الثامن الهجري، وقد اتسم بكثرة المطالعة وغزارة التصنيف، حتى قيل : إن كراريس مؤلفاته زادت على أيام عمره، عرف الإمام عند المهتمين بعلوم العربية بكتابه (الطراز) الذي جمع فيه بين مدرسة السكاكي الكلامية، ومدرسة عبد القاهر وابن الأثير الأدبية.
