يوجز هذا الكتاب ما نشرته مراجع معروفة عالميا حول الخلفية المناعية لأمثلة عن أمراض من أجهزة مختلفة متجنبا التفصيل، إذ عرض في الفصول الأولى من الكتاب المبادئ الأساسية للمناعة عموما وطرائق تشخيص الأمراض المناعية والتنظيم المناعي، ثم يعرض بعض أمراض الجهاز المناعي وخلاياه وأمراض المناعة الذاتية وبعض الأمراض المجموعية التـي يعرف أنها تنتج عن آلية مناعية أو يفترض ذلك، بعدئذ يعرض الكتاب بعض الأمثلة المرضية موزعة بحسب الجهاز، وفي الختام يوجز الأساس المناعي لزرع الأعضاء.
