الوحش هي رواية كتبها المؤلف الأمريكي ستيفن كرين عام 1898. تدور أحداث الرواية في قرية خيالية صغيرة تدعى وهيلمفيل في نيويورك، حيث عين طبيب القرية الدكتور ترسكوت، السائق هنري جونسون الأمريكي من أصل أفريقي الذي أصيب بتشويه بعد أن أنقذ نجل الدكتور ترسكوت من حريق. وأطلق سكان القرية على جونسون لقب الوحش، فتعهد دكتور ترسكوت بحمايته مما أدى إلى نبذ عائلته من المجتمع. استخدم كرين القرية الخيالية وهيلمفيل في أكثر من أربع عشر قصة.
