Overview
تبدأ المسرحية بظهور شخص ثلاثيني على الخشبة، تبدو على هيئته الغرابة ويعيش في مكان غريب. يحاول جاهداً خلق عمل ما، وهناك أمر ما يود القيام به ولكن هذا الشيء يكون ناقصاً دائماً. نلاحظ منذ البداية علاقته مع الزمن والصراع معه، يُصّرح بهذا بشكل صريح وبعدها يحاول القيام بأمور أخرى ويقاسمه هذا المكان شيئان (فأر أبيض ويكون حبيساً داخل قفص، بالإضافة لجمجمة بشرية) يتحدث الرجل مع الفأر ويتوهم أنه يسمع ما يردده الفأر وعن حاجته للحرية ويجيبه بالرفض قائلا : أن المحيط بنا هو الخطر الأعظم ووجوده هنا نعمة. يحاول أن يرسم، ولكنه يفشل في إيجاد موضوع هام، يرجع لعمله الوحيد والذي يرفض الانتهاء وهي عبارة عّن لوحة سوداء بالكامل \"يقوم بدهن اللوح باللون الأسود فوق الأسود، وهو يردد ومؤمن أن هذه اللوحة هي الأهم في العالم، لأنها تحوي كل معاناته.
