يجمع هذا الكتاب تراجم علماء بيت بني سمجون، وهم من أعرق العائلات الطنجاوية في العلم والوجاهة، وأقوى وأنصع مثال على الترابط العلمي والثقافي بين طنجة والأندلس، فقد تولى عدد من أعلام هذا البيت خطة القضاء ببعض الحواضر الأندلسية، وكثير منهم ولدوا بالجزيرة الأندلسية، فصاروا من أهلها ومن علمائها ونبهائها، وهم معدودون من أهل غرناطة، لقد أقبل أبناء بيت بني سمجون على التعلم والدراسة، ونبغوا في العلم وتوارثوه جيلا بعد جيل. وكانت بداية ظهورهم في النصف الثاني من القرن الخامس الهجري، ثم تسلسل العلم في هذه الأسرة الطنجية إلى بداية القرن الثامن الهجري.
