تناول الكتاب مجموعة الأشعار الإنجليزية والمترجمة، لشاعرة رومانية هاجرت إلى الولايات المتحدة، حيث يعكس شعرها حقبة الثمانينيات الشيوعية في رومانيا. قصائدها هي جزء من الحياة اليومية لتلك الفترة، تخال أحيانا أن هذه الأطياف ليست بمنأى عن مناخات عالمنا العربي وأصدائه القديمة والحديثة حتى لتبدو ظلالها امتدادا لها : الألم والتمزقات المجتمعية التي تسمع أصداءها بين الخطوط والكلمات. شعرها يصور مكانين، هما رومانيا وأميركا، يقدم شروحات هذا العيش المزدوج بينهما. تعكس روح كتابة الهجرة هذه، العواطف المحروسة في ضواحي العالم الجديد، والتغييرات الجذرية، الشخصيات والأمكنة التي لا تنمحي.
