ابن الهيثم أسم ساطع في سماء العلم الإنساني اعترفت بإسهاماته العلمية أجيال العلماء اللاحقين عليه، والحضارات التي وصلتها علومه ومؤلفاته... ذكره صاعد الأندلسي في كتابه (طبقات الأمم) ضمن من اشتهروا بإحكام الفلسفة وعلم حركات النجوم وهيئة العالم. وقال عنه القفطي إنه : صاحب التصانيف والتأليف المذكورة في علم الهندسة، كان عالما بهذا الشأن، متقنا له، متفننا فيه، قيما بغوامضه ومعانيه، مشاركا في علوم الأوائل. ولقبه البيهقي ببطليموس الثاني، لأنه: كان تلو بطليموس في العلوم الرياضية والمقولات، وتصانيفه أكثر من أن تحصى. وفي كتابه (عيون الأنباء) يشهد ابن أبا أصيبعة، أن ابن الهيثم: لم يماثله أحد من أهل زمانه في العلم الرياضي، ولا يقرب منه أحد.
