صدر مؤخرا عن دار أبجد للترجمة والنشر والتوزيع كتاب جديد للناقدة الدكتورة نادية هناوي بعنوان (السونيت في شعر حسب الشيخ جعفر) ويقع في خمسة فصول تصب في أسباب تأثر حسب الشيخ جعفر بالسونيت الشكسبيري وكيف جرب توظيفه في القصيدة التفعيلية فأضاف الى الشعرية العربية المعاصرة جديدا يكشف عن ممكنات هذا النوع الشعري مما لم يصل إليه غيره من الذين جربوا كتابة السونيت. وقد وزعت المؤلفة دراستها لتجريب حسب الشيخ جعفر نمط السونيت بين مراحل ثلاث، الأولى هي مرحلة تدشين السونيت بدءا من قصيدة (المرفأ المقفر) وما تلتها من قصائد كتبها الشاعر قبل منتصف ستينيات القرن العشرين، ثم كانت الدواوين الأربعة( نخلة الله / الطائر الخشبي / زيارة السيدة السومرية / عبر الحائط في المرآة) هي المرحلة الوسطى على طريق بلوغ المرحلة النهائية في كتابة السونيت.
