Overview
عاش اليونانيون في مصر منذ العصر الهيليني إلى ما بعد ثورة يوليو 1952، عندما غادر أغلبهم بعد تولي جمال عبد الناصر والقوميين العرب السلطة، وكان تأثير اليونانيين قويا ولا زال حتى اليوم في مصر، فقد أضافوا عدة عناصر إيجابية من الثقافة والتعليم، وامتزجت الحضارة المصرية مع الحضارة اليونانية. كما ظهرت عدة مؤرخين وأكاديميين وعلماء من اليونانيين، يبلغ عددهم اليوم حوالي 3800 فقط ويتواجد أغلبهم في مدينة الإسكندرية في شمال مصر، التي كانت عاصمة الدولة البطلمية وكان آخر حكامها كليوباترا السابعة. جدير بالذكر أن علاقة \" ميتروف \" مع اليونانيين في مصر علاقة عائلية وأكاديمية على حد سواء، فقد انتقل جداه- من جهة أبيه- من جزيرة خيوس إلى الإسكندرية في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر من أجل الانخراط في تجارة القطن، كما أنهما ولدان بالإسكندرية وأنجبا أباه بها، أما \" ميتروف \" نفسه فنشأ في أثينا يستمع إلى قصص الحياة في مصر.
