تتناول هذه الدراسة الكرد مصادر ومعالم تاريخهم في صدر الإسلام (مرحلة الفتوحات)، ودخول الكرد في الإسلام بعد انسياح طلائع الفتح الإسلامي في المنطقة الكردية (کردستان) في عهد الخليفة الراشد عمر بن الخطاب (رضى الله عنه)، ابتداء من سنة 16 هـ / 637 م وحتى نهاية الدولة الأموية 132 هـ-750 م، وتمثل سنة 16 هـ / 637 م أهمية كبيرة في التاريخ الكردي حيث بدأ فيها ما يمكن اعتباره عهدة جديدة بدخول الكرد في الإسلام واعتبار المنطقة الكردية (کردستان) جزءا من الدولة الإسلامية (دار الإسلام). يستمد هذا البحث أهميته من تناوله لجانب مهم من تاريخ الكرد في صدر الإسلام الذي لازال يفتقر إلى مزيد من الأبحاث والدراسات، خاصة في جوانبه السياسية والحضارية والاجتماعية، وذلك لتسليط الضوء عليه وكشف نواحيه المختلفة.
