وإذا كان هذا المفهوم راسخا في الأذهان، ولاصقا في النفوس، لعصور كثيرة، فإن العصر العباسي كان بداية ظهور تحولات مجددة في النظر إلى الشعر وقوانينه؛ حيث طرأت حول هذا المفهوم بعض التغييرات، مست الأغراض والمضمون بالأساس، وهذا يتجلى في أشعار العباسيين الذين يعتبرون الرواد الأوائل للحداثة في الشعر ولهم قصب السبق في ذلك؛ وهذه التغييرات التي حاقت بالأدب عامة والشعر بصفة خاصة، جاءت نتيجة طبيعية للتغيرات الاجتماعية والسياسية والحضارية التي واكبت العصر العباسي آنئذ ؛ إذ لا يختلف اثنان عن مدى تأثير البيئة الاجتماعية في الأدب.
