دراسة فى ضوء الوثائق البردية التى يعرض لها المؤلف فى الفصل الأول من كتابه ويتحدث فيه عن البرديات باعتبارها المصدر الأساسى لدراسة تاريخ مصر الاقتصادى والاجتماعى تحت حكم الرومان ثم يتحدث عن المصادر الأخرى للدراسة أما السرد التاريخي نفسه فيبدأ بالعلاقة بين مصر وروما وكيف انتهت بأن صارت مصر ولاية رومانية ثم إدارة ولاية مصر تحت الحكم الرومانى وبعدها تتحدث عن اليهود فى مصر تحت الحكم الرومانى ويتحدث الكتاب أيضا عن الزراعة والأرض ثم الصناعة والتجارة والمعاملات مسح تاريخى مهم لجوانب الحياة المصرية فى العصر الرومانى .
