اشتمل الكتاب على أربع وحدات، تناول المؤلف في الوحدة الأولى : توضیح مصطلحات علم الحديث، وبيان مكانة السنة النبوية، وتضمن كذلك نشأة علوم الحديث، ومراحل تدوينه، وأشر كذلك فيها إلى الرحلة في طلب العلم وأهميتها. وأما الوحدة الثانية فقد تضمنت الحديث عن : علم الرجال، والجرح، والتعديل، وتحمل الحديث، ومن الصحابي، والتابعي، وطبقات الرواة وفي الوحدة الثالثة تحدث فيها عن : أقسام الحديث المقبول، \" الحديث الصحيح وأقسامه، وحكم العمل به، وأشهر كتبه، والحديث الحسن، وأقسامه ومصادره\" وكانت الوحدة الرابعة متضمنة : بیان مفهوم الحديث الضعيف، وحكمه، وأنواعه، ومفهوم الحديث الموضوع، وعن أسباب الوضع في الحديث النبوي الشريف، وعن حكم العمل به، وحكم روايته. وجهود العلماء في تصنيف الحديث، سواء في ذلك الصحيح أو الضعيف والموضوع.
