يوثق الكتاب التراث الشعبي في محافظة تعز اليمنية، وهو عبارة عن موسوعة ألف بائية مصغرة على غرار المعجم، يضم بين دفتيه (1086) كناية، وهي كل ما استطاع المؤلف جمعه من الكنايات الشائعة كثيرة الاستعمال، سواء اندثرت أو لاتزال متداولة يتناقلها عامة الناس، إذ لا يوجد حديث بدونها ولا يمر يوم إلا وتلوكها ألسن الناس خصوصا عند أبناء القرى والأرياف وكبار السن، والتي تصور المجتمع بكل صوره وأبعاده سواء ما ينجذب إليها الطبع أو ما يأنفها السمع بهدف توثيق جزء من كنوز تراثنا الجميل الذي بات مهددًا بالاندثار إن لم يتم تداركه وحفظه وتوثيقه.
