عندما أقوم بالكتابة عن ليلى، فإنني أكتب عن شريكة حياتي، عن الزوجة، والحبيبة، والأم لابنينا، عن المناضلة، وقبل كل شيء عن ليلى الانسانة، المعطاءة لقضيتها الوطنية، ولشعبها ونضالاته وتضحياته، ولقضايا تحرر أمتها العربية، والأخرى على الصعيد الإنساني العالمي، نعم، بملء الفخر أقول: هذه هي ليلى خالد، كانت، وهي، وستظل ما بقيت على قيد الحياة أيقونة نضالية، لا تعرف للعطاء حدودا، تنسى نفسها في سبيل مصالح الآخرين وقضاياهم، لم تبخل يوما بجهد في سبيلهم، من هذه النقطة بالذات، ينبع كل هذا الود الذي يكنه الآخرون لهذه المناضلة الصلبة، التي لم تسع يوما لجاه أو منصب أو مال، رغم أن بعض الآخرين يظنون عكس ذلك تماما!\".
