يتحدث الكتاب عن إعادة التأمين بين النظرية والتطبيق حيث يمر نظام التأمين في التطبيق العملي بثلاث مراحل هي مرحلة التأمين المباشر، وتتمثل بالتعاقد بين المؤمن لهم والمؤمن المباشر على تغطية الأخطار التي يشتركون في الخشية من نتائجها ومرحلة إعادة التأمين وتتمثل بالتعاقد بين المؤمن المباشر ومعيد التأمين لتغطية مسؤولية الأول عن تعويض الخسائر التي تلحق بالمؤمن لهم أما المرحلة الثالثة فتتمثل بما يعرف بالإسناد المكرر وبموجبها يغطي معيد التأمين مسؤوليته عن نتائج الأخطار المسندة له من قبل المؤمن المباشر.
