يتحدث الكتاب عن التحقيق الابتدائي في قانون أصول المحاكمات الجزائية حيث قد نشأت مرحلة التحقيق الإبتدائي كمرحلة وسطى تلي البحث الأولي وتمهد للمحاكمة في ظل (نظام التنقيب والتحري) حيث يقوم المحقق بدور إيجابي وفاعل في التنقيب عن الأدلة وجمعها بهدف الكشف عن الحقيقة وفي حيث لا يعترف (النظام الإتهامي) بهذه المرحلة فيترك مهمة جمع الأدلة للخصوم في الدعوى يتتكون الكتاب من خمسة أبواب الباب الأول القواعد العامة في التحقيق الإبتدائي والباب الثاني معاملات التحقيق الخاصة بالتنقيب عن الأدلة والباب الثالث المعاملات الإحتياطية إزاء المدعى عليه والباب الرابع تصرف المدعي العام المحقق في التحقيق الإبتدائي والباب الخامس دور النائب العام في التحقيق الإبتدائي.
