في هذا الكتاب يأخذنا كوركيس عواد ويعقوب سركيس في رحلة صوب التاريخ القديم للعراق في كتاب جاء بعنوان \"أصول أسماء مدن وقرى عراقية\" يتناولان فيه بقعة من العراق، لها في الماضي تاريخ طويل حافل بالأحداث، وهي الآن عامرة آهلة بسكانها. وهذه المنطقة محل البحث: تمتد في نهر دجلة غربا، والزاب الأعلى شرقا وجنوبا، وتنتهي في الشمال بسلسلة جبال الرقوش وباعذرا. وفي هذه المنطقة، مواطن للآثار كثيرة، ومدن وقرى قائمة عامرة، يسكنها أقواما من العرب والآراميين والتركمان والأكراد، ويتكلمون بلغات شتى: العربية، والنورث (الآرامية العامية)، والتركمانية، والكردية. وفي هذه المواضيع التي ألقى الباحثان الأضواء عليها ما يعود إلى عصورها قبل التاريخ ومنها ما ازدهر في أيام الآشوريين والحوريين وغيرهم ومنها ما علا شأنه في العصر الإسلامي وما بعده.
