يشرح الفيلسوف ابن سينا آخر ما توصل إليه من تعريفات للمنطق ومبادئه وقضاياه، وينقد منطق الفلاسفة اليونانيين بكل حيادية، ويذكر ما لهم وما عليهم، استخدم فيها الأسلوب السهل المبسط. بل ويعالج بعض التعاريف مثل التصور والتصديق والاستقراء والاستنتاج، والكلي والجزئي، وأصناف التعريف مثل الحد والمفهوم والاسم والكلمة والأداة، وغيرها. جاء الكتاب محاولة صادقة منه لتحديد وضبط آلة اشتغال العقل البشري حتى تكون نتائج التفكير منطقية صارمة، وتؤدي بصاحبها إلى الحق الذي لا لبس فيه، والإبداع المنطقى دون كلل أو ملل وابن سينا بهذا الإجراء الواعي يسعى لإعلاء شأن العقل وإعطائه الدور الأكبر في الفهم والتفكير واتخاذ القرار.
